Aalyah Mysterio has only recently started her WWE journey, but Rey Mysterio is already seeing something familiar in his daughter. According to Rey, Aalyah is a fast learner just like Dominik, and she’s now “kicking butt” while trying to establish a name of her own.
While speaking with BANG Showbiz on September 11, Rey was asked about Aalyah’s wrestling training and what kind of potential he sees in her. One of the first things he noticed was how quickly she picks things up, something he also remembers seeing with Dominik.
“Her potential is, she’s a fast learner. Very similar to Dom as well. You know, he picked up very fast on things. I think with Dom, he started picking up things much faster when he was already in the ring and learning.”
“You know, maybe it was a little bit more difficult at the beginning, the process, but now it’s like he’s on top of little things. And I noticed that even when we were tagging together, and Aalyah has that gift, too. She’s a fast learner. She commits to something when she sets her mind to it.”
What surprised Rey was that he never realized just how interested Aalyah was in wrestling. It wasn’t until she actually stepped into the ring and tried it that he saw how seriously she wanted to pursue it. Now she’s training and, according to her father, putting everything into creating her own place in the family business.
“Overall, you know, it’s something that I didn’t think that she was passionate about, but obviously she was when she tried it for the first time. And that’s why she’s here. You know, she’s training. She’s just kicking butt, you know, trying to make a name for herself and honor both of our names, her brother’s and her dad’s.”
Rey initially thought that first taste of wrestling might be enough for Aalyah. She accompanied him to the WWE Performance Center in October 2025, got into the ring and immediately came away wanting more.
“I thought it was going to be like a one-time thing. So, yeah, she went up to the PC with me in October of last year. Went into the PC. It’s almost a year ago. And she really liked it. She enjoyed it. She goes, ‘That was fun. That was really cool.’”
Rey then removed himself from the equation to see whether she loved wrestling or simply enjoyed training with her father. Aalyah went back to the Performance Center alone for two weeks and had to live the routine day after day.
“So then I signed her up to go up for two weeks without her dad, on her own to do it, 10 days back to back, you know, sleeping, waking up, doing it, coming back home, sleeping, waking up, that same routine. And she really enjoyed it.”
That was apparently all Rey needed to see. Aalyah had already graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in Human Biology, so he made it clear that education would always be there if she wanted to return. Wrestling, however, was now a real option.
“So that all leads up to where she’s at now. You know, she’s already graduated and she wanted to pursue this. I said, ‘You can always go back to school at any time, whenever you want. If this is really what you want to do, doors are right there. You just got to put in the work.’ And she understands that.”
Aalyah has since officially started at the WWE Performance Center and was added to its internal roster in August. She was listed under her real surname, Gutierrez, rather than the Mysterio name used by her father and brother, although there’s been no confirmation that this will ultimately become her wrestling name.
Aalyah still has a long road ahead before anyone knows what her WWE career will look like, but this is no longer just Rey Mysterio’s daughter trying wrestling for fun. She survived the daily grind without her dad beside her, came back wanting more and is now trying to build a Mysterio legacy of her own.
