TripleManía 34 wasn’t always supposed to be a two-night event. AAA reportedly had one show planned for September 12—then Zuffa Boxing landed on the same night and everything changed.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, TripleManía was originally expected to take place as a one-night event on Saturday. Once Zuffa Boxing was announced for that date, WWE and TKO apparently saw a bigger opportunity than simply moving AAA somewhere else on the calendar.

A number of television and sports industry executives are expected to be in Las Vegas for the boxing event. WWE and TKO reportedly wanted AAA there too, giving the promotion a chance to get in front of potential television partners.

So TripleManía expanded. Night One was moved to Friday, September 11 in Las Vegas, while Night Two will take place September 13 at Arena CDMX in Mexico.

There’s a reason getting AAA in front of those executives matters. TKO is pleased with the promotion’s rollout over the past year, but there’s interest in finding AAA a permanent television home outside of YouTube.

The Las Vegas show has already gotten bigger on its own. AAA initially booked the Luxor Hotel & Casino, only to sell through the venue and move TripleManía to the much larger MGM Grand Garden Arena.

All of this has created a pretty ridiculous stretch for WWE’s production team. SmackDown goes down Friday in Mexico City, followed by TripleManía in Las Vegas that night. Zuffa Boxing follows Saturday, TripleManía Night Two is Sunday and then there’s a major RAW on Monday.

Some wrestlers won’t get to take one TripleManía night off either. Several talents have reportedly been told they’ll work both shows, unlike WWE’s usual approach to its two-night premium live events.

One boxing announcement ended up completely reshaping AAA’s biggest weekend of the year. Instead of one TripleManía, TKO now has two nights—and potentially a room full of future television partners watching.
