CM Punk’s WrestleMania 42 hotel incident didn’t just create a viral moment — it reportedly brought police into the situation after tensions escalated inside the MGM Grand.
Most fans saw the now widely circulated video showing Punk knocking a phone out of a fan’s hand near Bayley and AJ Lee. But during the Dirty Sheets Wrestling Informer podcast, Billi Bhatti revealed what he says happened behind the scenes once authorities got involved. Bhatti is tied closely to the story itself, as he explained that someone he personally knows was the one who filmed the viral video that later made its way to TMZ.
“A person that I know who goes to WrestleMania every year was actually the one who initially sold the video to tmz. I was sending out texts to see what price I could get… to try and get this guy the best price for his video. But in the end, he got that best price from tmz.”
According to Bhatti, the situation inside the hotel became serious enough that police responded and reviewed surveillance footage capturing both alleged incidents from that night. He said hotel management relayed what officers concluded after watching the footage.
“The manager clearly said that based on what the police watched on CCTV in both incidents, they made it clear to the hotel manager that we cannot arrest CM Punk for incident number one, but we can take action for incident number two, which would be the phone, which would be the slap across the hand.”
That distinction came down to how the incidents unfolded physically. Bhatti claimed that in the first alleged situation, a fan made contact with Punk first by tapping him on the shoulder — something authorities reportedly factored into their decision.
Meanwhile, the second incident — the one captured on video — involved Punk striking the phone out of a fan’s hand near the elevators after Bayley had already pushed the person back. Bhatti described the escalation leading into that moment.
“At this point, Punk comes across… slaps the phone out of the guy's hand, slaps him across the wrist, and then starts staring at the guy and then starts staring at every other wrestling fan in the lobby.”
He also noted that police did physically arrive at the hotel following the situation.
“The first guy who got slapped across the face decided to press charges, and the police did arrive at the MGM Grand.”
However, Bhatti said the situation ultimately didn’t result in an immediate arrest after authorities reviewed the footage. Instead, he suggested the second fan — the one involved in the phone incident — initially chose not to push the situation legally, leaving the outcome uncertain.
“Now, this guy did not press charges on the night… I do believe… if he doesn't get something that he deems to be satisfactory, that he will go to the police.”
That leaves the situation sitting in a strange middle ground — not fully resolved, but not escalating either. With surveillance footage reviewed and multiple accounts now surfacing, the police response has become a major piece of the story surrounding Punk’s chaotic WrestleMania weekend.
