Natalya says the death of Andy Williams hit her hard — and it immediately brought back memories of one of the darkest moments her family has ever endured.
During a conversation with the Toronto Sun’s “No Holds Barred,” Natalya was asked about Williams’ death and how the wrestling world reacted. She said news like that stops everyone in their tracks, no matter what company they work for. Natalya pointed to the flood of tributes that followed Williams’ passing and said it showed just how deeply respected he was across the wrestling community.
“You get stopped in your tracks when you hear about, like, something as shocking as, you know, one of our fellow wrestlers. And that’s the thing about the wrestling community. There is, there is a big, huge wrestling community out there that when something like this happens, it doesn’t matter where you work, we all come together.”
She said seeing people share photos, memories and even private messages from Williams made it clear what kind of person he was behind the scenes.
“Loved seeing everybody come together for, you know, just like, to celebrate, to honor, to share their memories of Andy, to share, you know, what he meant to them, how he impacted them. And just like photos, you just realized, like, even people were sharing their DMs from him and you just realized, like, man, like, what a nice, genuine, humble, like, great person this guy was.”
Natalya was also careful not to jump to conclusions about exactly what happened, saying more details could become clear over time. But when she first heard Williams had died, her mind went straight to his family.
“The first thing I thought of when I heard about Andy passing away, I thought about his family. You know, I thought, like, man, what was it like for them to get that news?”
That thought immediately brought Natalya back to the death of her uncle Owen Hart. Owen died in 1999 after a tragic accident during WWE’s Over the Edge pay-per-view, and Natalya said the impact on the Hart family was devastating.
“When Owen passed away, it was so hard. Like, our family was just — it was a very — I’ll never forget it. It was just a very hard moment for our family. It was the hardest thing that we’ve ever gone through.”
Natalya said losing someone that suddenly doesn’t just hurt in the moment. It leaves damage that can stay with a family forever.
“And it leaves you with deep — you know, it leaves you with very, I don’t know, just deep scars. It’s very traumatic.”
That’s why, even while seeing the wrestling world come together to celebrate Williams’ life, Natalya said she couldn’t stop thinking about what his loved ones were dealing with behind closed doors. For Natalya, Williams’ death also served as another brutal reminder that nobody is guaranteed tomorrow.
“I thought about his family and I thought, like, man, like, everybody is just coming together with these beautiful — remembering him, honoring him. But those are scars that, you know, they never go away. It never gets easier to lose somebody that you love.”
“And it does remind all of us. And I did think about Owen, like, life is short. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone.”
She then offered a message to the wrestling world that went far beyond company rivalries, grudges or personal issues. Natalya said that, at the end of the day, everyone is simply trying to make it through life — and Williams was gone far too soon.
“The best thing that we can all do is just treat each other with kindness and respect and grace, you know, no matter where you work or who you work for or even if you’ve had conflicts with people.”
“At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to get through this thing called life. So he was way too young to pass away.”
