The confusion surrounding Andy Williams’ condition has now been cleared up. TMZ has confirmed that the AEW wrestler known as The Butcher died after suffering a medical emergency during an Enjoy Wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
TMZ says the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Williams’ death following the medical emergency at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale. Williams was 48 years old.
The Butcher had been teaming with The Blade against TME when he collapsed at the end of the match. Enjoy Wrestling immediately stopped the show after doctors rushed into the ring and began performing CPR.
Enjoy Wrestling previously explained, “Andy collapsed at the end of his match this evening. Our doctors on staff tended to him immediately, administering CPR until the ambulance arrived.” Williams was then transported to the hospital while the rest of the event was canceled and fans were sent home.
The confirmation from TMZ finally settles hours of conflicting information surrounding Williams’ condition. Wrestling podcaster Famous Davis had initially said Williams passed away at Allegheny General Hospital and later told Ringside News that he stood behind the source who provided him the information. Enjoy Wrestling then created even more confusion when the promotion responded to the death claim by writing, “It’s not true. Delete this.” That post was later deleted without explanation.
Ringside News previously apologized for the confusion while waiting for something more definitive to emerge. TMZ has now obtained that confirmation directly from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Williams was best known to wrestling fans as The Butcher, one-half of The Butcher and The Blade in AEW. Outside the ring, he was also well known as the guitarist for Every Time I Die.
What started as a frightening medical emergency quickly turned into hours of conflicting reports, but there is sadly no longer any uncertainty surrounding what happened. Andy Williams has died at 48 years old after collapsing during the Enjoy Wrestling event.
