MVP is not holding back about the reason his WWE run came to an end, and he made it clear that his issues centered on Triple H long before the Hurt Syndicate came together in AEW.
During an episode of Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze, MVP discussed the end of his WWE tenure and the process that eventually led to him reuniting with Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin in AEW. While addressing his decision not to re-sign with WWE, MVP took direct aim at Triple H and claimed he did not want to continue working under his leadership. MVP stated that his feelings toward Triple H went beyond a disagreement over creative direction, accusing WWE’s Chief Content Officer of being dishonest and unwilling to confront issues directly.
“Because I don’t like Triple H. I don’t respect Triple H. I think he’s a coward and a liar.”
MVP then expanded on his personal experiences attempting to speak with Triple H during his final stretch in WWE. According to MVP, he repeatedly attempted to have a conversation with Triple H, only to be pushed off or prevented from having a private discussion.
“There are multiple times that I tried to talk to him, and he would always, ‘I’ll get with you in a little bit.’ Or the few times that I got a chance to get him in his office alone, he would call somebody to come in. He didn’t want to deal with it.”
The former United States Champion explained that he was not asking to be personally liked backstage. His issue was that he believed conversations about business and creative direction should have been handled directly and professionally.
“Tell me. I’m a professional. Tell me how you feel. We’re doing business. You don’t got to like me. There’s lots of people throughout my career that I’ve worked with that I don’t like. We’re making money. We’re doing business.”
MVP also claimed Bobby Lashley faced the same communication issues while trying to find out what WWE had planned for him. Lashley is a former WWE Champion and one of the most decorated stars of his generation, but MVP alleged that even he could not secure consistent one-on-one communication with Triple H.
“Bobby could not get Triple H on the phone. Triple H wouldn’t give Bobby one-on-one time. Bobby wanted to talk to Triple H about, ‘Hey, what’s my direction? What am I doing here?’ Triple H always had something come up.”
That frustration ultimately played a major role in MVP’s decision to begin urging Lashley to leave WWE alongside him. MVP said that after Shelton Benjamin was released, he began pushing for the three men to reunite outside the company once their contracts expired.
“So, I told Bobby when we were sitting in catering, ‘Dog, I’m not going to re-sign. Don’t re-sign. You and me get Shelton and let’s go to AEW. Let’s go.’”
MVP claimed Lashley was initially hesitant because he was earning strong money in WWE, but eventually came to share the belief that their future was elsewhere.
“I was in Bobby’s ear every week. Bobby, let’s go, dog. Like we just get Shelton. Let’s go across the street. And it finally came to the point where Bobby was like, ‘Yeah, you right. There’s no future here for us.’”
He also pushed back against any suggestion that he and Lashley were simply released or unwanted by WWE, insisting that both men made the choice not to sign new deals because they already had a plan in motion.
“So, my contract ran out. Bobby’s contract ran out. We didn’t re-sign. By our choice. Contrary to what somebody might say, we chose not to.”
While MVP had extremely harsh words for Triple H, he made it clear that he does not carry resentment toward WWE as a company or its parent organization, TKO.
“I don’t hate WWE. I have no animosity towards WWE. I don’t have any issue with TKO.”
MVP, Lashley and Benjamin eventually reunited in AEW as the Hurt Syndicate, where MVP said he is now enjoying the opportunity to work alongside his friends while continuing the faction they believed still had more to offer.
