MJF’s shocking AEW World Championship loss may not be the only surprise fans have to process. Just one week after Kenny Omega ended MJF’s third reign as AEW World Champion on Dynamite, a new report suggests the former champion could be disappearing from television for a while.

According to Fightful Select, when the outlet asked about MJF’s plans for the upcoming AEW Redemption pay-per-view, it was told that MJF is expected to be taking some time away from AEW programming.

The report stopped short of calling it a done deal. Fightful noted that nothing has been confirmed internally and no timetable was given for how long any potential absence could last. However, the expectation among those they spoke with is that MJF will still factor into AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in some capacity, even if it’s currently unclear what that role might be.

The title bout was originally planned for the AEW Redemption pay-per-view before ultimately being moved to television. The match carried huge stakes, with Omega permanently losing the right to challenge for the championship if he came up short.

Instead, Omega survived everything MJF threw at him—including a low blow and a shot with the AEW World Championship belt. The turning point came when Will Ospreay rushed to ringside and prevented MJF from using his Dynamite Diamond Ring, allowing Omega to connect with the One-Winged Angel and capture his second AEW World Championship.

Why the match was moved from pay-per-view to television became a major talking point almost immediately. It was reported that the title change and stipulation were originally scheduled for Redemption before plans changed. It was added that MJF is believed to have pushed for the match to happen on Dynamite instead, with Tony Khan ultimately approving the switch.

Fightful Select has also reported that the belief within AEW is that MJF wanted the match moved to television and that Omega defeating him for the championship had been the long-term plan for months.

With Redemption now less than two weeks away, Thekla’s AEW Women’s World Championship defense against Willow Nightingale is currently the only match officially announced. If Fightful’s report proves accurate, MJF may not be part of the show at all before eventually resurfacing on the road to All In, where Omega is already scheduled to defend the AEW World Championship against Will Ospreay at Wembley Stadium.

Do you think AEW should keep MJF off television for a while after losing the World Championship, or should he return immediately and begin chasing the title again? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
