Luchasaurus is revealing just how close things got to turning tragic during the terrifying pneumonia battle that nearly ended his life.

Speaking on Talk Is Jericho, the AEW star explained that doctors originally feared he may have suffered a pulmonary embolism before discovering the situation was even worse than expected.

“We thought it was maybe a pulmonary embolism. It was so scary to think that. Then they were like, ‘No, you actually have pneumonia, but it’s spread to both lungs, so we can give you these meds and just pray.’”

That moment completely changed the way Luchasaurus looks at both life and wrestling.

Before the hospitalization, he admitted he used to shrug off getting sick and never really worried about it. But after learning how fragile the lungs actually are, the reality of the situation hit him hard.

“I started learning about actually how fragile your lungs are, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this is a lot.’”

Even after eventually getting medically cleared, Luchasaurus spent months at home recovering and reevaluating what he actually wanted out of wrestling moving forward.

Instead of obsessing over becoming a top singles star, he explained that he now appreciates simply being able to perform as the Luchasaurus character fans already know.

“Not every character needs to be focused on that. I like the character that I’m playing as Luchasaurus, and I think there’s a place for that.”

Luchasaurus eventually returned to AEW in August 2025 and reunited with Jack Perry to reform Jurassic Express, although he is currently sidelined again with a shoulder injury.

After hearing doctors admit all they could really do was “pray,” it is easy to understand why the experience completely shifted his outlook on wrestling and life itself.
