Shawn Chan may be done in Florida for good, because the man accused of stalking WWE star Liv Morgan is now believed to have been deported from the United States.
Ringside News has learned that Chan is no longer listed as being held in Hernando County, Florida, and that is a big deal. The last major court update said he was being released from U.S. Marshal custody and handed over to ICE, with the deportation process set to begin because Chan wanted to return to Canada. Now that he has disappeared from the county custody system, all signs point to that process already going down.
Chan had been detained after being arrested in connection with allegations involving Liv Morgan. The case got a ton of attention because Morgan is one of WWE’s biggest stars, and the whole situation was serious from the jump.
The federal criminal case itself is already over. Chan was found not guilty by reason of insanity after a stipulated facts bench trial on June 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The judge found that Chan had been stabilized, was deemed competent by medical providers, and no longer posed a danger to Morgan or the public. The court laid it out clearly in the ruling.
“Defendant met his burden of establishing by a preponderance of the evidence that his release would not create a substantial risk of bodily injury to another person or serious damage of property of another due to a present mental disease or defect. Namely, Defendant has been stabilized from his prior psychotic state and been deemed competent by medical source providers. As such, he poses no danger to the community or to the victim in this case.”
That ruling did not mean Chan just walked out and went on with his day. There was already an ICE detainer waiting for him, and the court noted that Chan was not fighting it. He wanted to go back to Canada.
“Defendant does not oppose the immigration detainer and desires to return to Canada.”
Federal prosecutors also did not push back on the court’s conclusion that Chan could be released from criminal custody.
“The Government concurred in this assessment and offered no evidence to rebut this showing.”
The judge then formally ruled that Chan’s release would not create a major risk of harm to anyone else.
“Accordingly, it is ORDERED as follows: 1. The Court finds the Defendant’s release would not create a substantial risk of bodily injury to another person or serious damage of property of another due to a present mental disease or defect.”
That made the next step pretty obvious. The U.S. Marshal Service was expected to coordinate with ICE so Chan could be transferred into immigration custody. From there, deportation was the likely outcome since Chan wanted to return to Canada. The criminal case against Chan is closed, and now the immigration side appears to be at the finish line too.
