The man accused of stalking Liv Morgan just avoided prison in federal court, but he is not exactly walking away free.

Shawn Chan, a Canadian man accused of traveling to Florida and showing up at Morgan’s home, was found not guilty by reason of insanity in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The charge was interstate domestic violence, which could have carried up to five years behind bars.

Chan waived a jury trial, so Judge Mary S. Scriven made the call herself during a hearing that lasted just over 30 minutes. The ruling came after two psychologists found Chan was so mentally ill that he could not understand the wrongfulness of what he was doing.

While behind bars, Chan was diagnosed with delusional disorder. Court records said he believed Liv Morgan was his girlfriend and also believed he had ties to pro wrestling figures who owed him credit for storyline ideas.

The case started on May 31, 2025, when Chan traveled from Scarborough, Ontario to Morgan’s Florida home. Surveillance footage showed him looking for a key and trying to get inside while Morgan was not there. He stayed on the property for more than two hours. He also left a handwritten note calling the trip a “friendly visit” and included his contact information.

The situation got even creepier when footage showed Chan picking up an air rifle pellet gun that had been left on the porch and trying the front door while holding it. Days later, Chan showed up at the WWE Performance Center while Morgan was there for an NXT taping. Security spotted him, and he was arrested.

After the verdict, Judge Scriven ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to coordinate with ICE and release Chan into its custody. Since Chan is a Canadian resident, he is expected to remain in ICE custody while deportation proceedings move forward.

So the federal case is over, but Chan’s legal situation is not. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity, but after allegedly showing up at Liv Morgan’s home, trying her door, leaving a note, and later appearing at WWE’s Performance Center, authorities are not just sending him on his way.
