Kendal Grey is not trying to wrestle like everyone else in NXT, and her finisher proves it.
During her appearance on TMZ Inside the Ring, Grey was asked by Branson about her “Shades of Grey” finisher. He brought up how brutal the move looks and how her offense does not fit into one simple box. She is not just a high-flyer, but she still has enough risk in her game to catch opponents slipping. Geay explained that the move was built around her size and style. She wanted something she could hit suddenly, from different positions, and against any opponent in the ring.
“So for me, like, I felt like I’m not a super super compared to other girls. Like, I’m not super, super big. So I’m not super strong and big. I mean, I feel like I do lift good and I’m, I’m strong, I would say, but like, compared to size, I am on the smaller side of it. So I try something that I can do out of nowhere. What I could do off the rope in the ring, do it from a wheelbarrow, do it from the top of the buckle. So I try to find something that I can do at any moment to anybody with any setup. And that’s kind of like where I came from. Like trying to find that finisher.”
That is exactly why “Shades of Grey” works for her. It is not about overpowering everyone. It is about having a move she can pull off before her opponent knows what hit them. Grey also said her moveset changes based on who she is facing. She can lean on throws and amateur wrestling, but bigger opponents force her to get more creative.
“But also I do try to find like diff. Like you talk about my moveset. Like I do like throws, I do amateur wrestling stuff, but I also try to do a little bit high flying stuff depending on like who I’m with. If there’s someone that’s huge compared to me, I know that I’m not gonna just be able to like throw them just off the first time. I’m gonna have to break them down and maybe use higher risk moves to get them down.”
That says a lot about Kendal Grey’s mindset in WWE. She is not just relying on her amateur wrestling background and hoping it carries her. She is already thinking about matchups, size differences, and how to make her offense work against anyone.
“Shades of Grey” gives her a weapon she can use from almost anywhere, and that could become a huge part of her rise in NXT.
