WWE still has the John Cena Classic on the books, and the current plan is to run it after Survivor Series.
PWInsider reports there has been no change to the timeline for the event, which John Cena recently confirmed WWE is still working on. The plan remains for the John Cena Classic to take place toward the end of 2026. One source gave an even tighter window for when WWE is looking to hold it.
“Post-Survivor Series but nothing locked in yet.”
That lines up with what Cena recently told Extra at San Diego Comic-Con, where he said WWE was working toward holding the event before the end of the calendar year.
“What I can tell you is that we’re working towards it, and I cannot tell you how excited I am about the event and what it stands for. I want to do something great for WWE and for the fans toward the end of the calendar year.”
Cena first announced the John Cena Classic at Backlash on May 10. The concept will feature an in-ring competition with fan involvement to crown the first John Cena Classic Champion. Cena has kept the bigger details quiet, including who will compete and exactly how the tournament will work.
“Man, I wish I could give you spoilers, but I’ve got to be loyal to my company. What I can tell you is we’re working on it, and I’m going to give you my absolute best.”
For now, there is still no locked-in date or location. What has not changed is WWE’s plan to get the John Cena Classic done before 2026 is over, with the current target coming sometime after Survivor Series.
