Sami Zayn hasn’t wrestled in nearly three weeks, and now there’s a real reason behind it.
PWInsider reports that the broken hand Zayn mentioned during his recent segment with CM Punk is legitimate and not part of a WWE storyline.
“For those who have asked about Sami Zayn not competing in the ring of late, Zayn mentioned he had a broken hand during a segment with CM Punk last week. That is a legitimate injury, not something that is storyline.”
Zayn’s last match came on August 2 at WWE SummerSlam 2026 in Minneapolis. He competed in a Fatal Four-Way to determine the number one contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship, with Kevin Owens defeating Zayn, Finn Balor and Gunther.
Since then, Zayn has stayed on WWE television, but he hasn’t stepped back into the ring. The broken hand now explains why WWE has kept him active in segments while keeping him out of matches. There’s still no word on exactly when Zayn suffered the injury or how long he’ll be sidelined. For now, his SummerSlam match remains his most recent bout.
