Santos Escobar is officially free to make his next move, but don’t expect him to rush into another wrestling company just because he can.
During an interview with TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Escobar was asked the question everyone wants answered now that his WWE run is over — where does he wrestle next? For now, even Escobar says he doesn’t know.
The former WWE star explained that he has spent too much of his career feeling like he always needed to immediately jump from one thing to the next. This time, he wants to slow things down and actually decide what makes sense.
“After a very long time of taking things in a rush, like trying to, ‘Oh, I just left this place, I gotta go to that place,’ or, ‘I just did this, I gotta do that,’ this time is different. This time I’m taking my time.”
That doesn’t mean Escobar is disappearing from wrestling. He confirmed that he is accepting a limited number of independent bookings while his team works on whatever comes next.
“I will take bookings. That’s where you can contact me for limited dates in the quote-unquote independent circuit. And my team is getting ready for whatever’s next.”
As for whether that next move could eventually lead him to another major wrestling company, Escobar wasn’t dropping any clues. In fact, he said the last year and a half taught him that there is no point pretending he knows what is coming.
“I can’t really say what my in-ring future looks like because I don’t know. I think if there’s anything I’ve learned in the past year and a half, it’s I can’t say what’s coming. It doesn’t matter what the vibe is. I don’t know what’s coming.”
Escobar may not know where he is headed, but he sounds pretty confident about what fans will get when he gets there.
“But I can tell you this. This I can tell you 100%. I’m 100% sure of it. I will do it with my heart. I’ll give you my everything. You will get the best of myself, the best version that you’ve seen. That I can tell you because I’m whole, I’m complete and I’m ready.”
So there’s no big destination reveal yet. Escobar is taking independent dates, weighing his options and refusing to force his next move just for the sake of getting back under contract somewhere. Wherever he ends up, he’s promising fans they’re going to get the strongest version of him yet.
