Jey Uso is heading to the King of the Ring finals, but WWE’s own YouTube audience is not exactly throwing him a parade.
After Jey defeated Je’Von Evans on the June 19 edition of SmackDown to advance to Night of Champions, WWE uploaded the video of his big win. That clip quickly got hit with a ton of negative reactions.
At the time of writing, the video has 177.8K views, but only 6,598 likes compared to 21,809 dislikes. That puts the clip at 76.8% dislikes, which is a pretty loud message from fans who were not happy with the result.
The backlash started right after SmackDown, when fans on Twitter complained that WWE once again picked an established star over a newer name who could have used the win. One fan ripped the choice by saying:
“build new talent? nah, push the 40 year old alcoholic who can’t even do a neckbreaker bump properly 🗣️🗣️🗣️ THIS IS WHAT WE DO 🗣️🗣️🗣️”
Another fan made it clear they did not want Jey advancing: “Nobody wanted one of the worst wrestlers in the company to advance.” One viewer even compared Jey’s main event run to Jinder Mahal’s WWE Championship reign.
“Jey Uso is the worst main eventer since Jinder was WWE champion, if he wasn’t Samoan he would have been fired years ago.”
Jey is now set to face Oba Femi in the King of the Ring finals at Night of Champions on June 27 in Riyadh. The winner gets the crown and a world title shot at SummerSlam, so WWE clearly sees this as a major spot for Jey.
Still, the YouTube numbers make one thing obvious: a lot of fans wanted Je’Von Evans to get that breakout moment instead. Jey may be going to Saudi Arabia, but WWE’s upload getting buried in dislikes shows this win came with a whole lot of baggage.
