FTR is taking direct shots at Adam Copeland and Christian Cage before their huge “I Quit” match at AEW Double or Nothing.
Ahead of the pay-per-view showdown, Dax Harwood spoke with Yahoo’s Uncrowned and argued that while Copeland and Christian may be considered one of the greatest tag teams ever, they never had to deal with the same level of competition FTR has faced throughout their own career.
“They may be the greatest tag-team of their generation, but if we’re being honest, and we’re putting all ego aside, they had two other mediocre tag-teams to compare themselves to: The Hardy Boys and the Dudley Boyz.”
That alone is enough to start a war among wrestling fans, but Harwood did not stop there. According to him, FTR’s generation of tag wrestling has been far deeper and far more competitive than the era Copeland and Christian dominated.
“Their generation didn’t have the depth of talent that FTR does.”
Harwood then rattled off the teams FTR has battled throughout the years while arguing that they still managed to stay at the top of the conversation.
“We’ve had to compete with American Alpha, the DIYs, the New Days, the Usos, the Young Bucks, the Briscoes, the Motor City Machine Guns.”
He finished by making it clear where he believes FTR stands historically.
“We still come out on top, and we still are at the top of the list when people talk about greatest tag-teams of the generation.”
The comments add even more heat to an already emotional match at Double or Nothing because the stakes are massive. If Copeland and Christian lose the “I Quit” match, they can never team together again.
With FTR openly dismissing the legendary teams from Copeland and Christian’s era, the match just became even more personal heading into AEW’s pay-per-view weekend. AEW Double or Nothing takes place Sunday, May 24, from Queens, New York.
