WWE found a way to keep both Oba Femi and Bron Breakker from taking a clean loss at Sunday Night’s Main Event, but fans weren’t exactly impressed with how they got there. Bronson Reed’s surprise return handed Oba a DQ victory, and the finish immediately had people ripping WWE for refusing to pick an actual winner.
Oba looked like he was getting closer to putting Breakker away when Reed suddenly hit the ring and smashed him with a steel chair. The referee immediately called for the bell, giving Oba the win by disqualification instead of letting either man score the pin.
For some fans, that was especially frustrating considering how strongly WWE has already presented Oba. One viewer couldn’t understand why someone who retired Brock Lesnar couldn’t simply be allowed to beat Breakker.
“Yes because the guy who retired brock can’t beat a black steiner.”
Another fan saw the whole thing as WWE taking the safest possible route. Instead of deciding which man should lose, they simply brought Reed back and protected everyone.
“WWE really said ‘let’s protect them both’ and sent Bronson Reed out there to cause a DQ. 😂”
Others were much less polite about how Oba was used. One fan felt WWE completely wasted him in a match that could have done much more for everyone involved.
“Terrible use of Oba Femi. Please get better. That shit was straight ass. We all know Oba > Bron, Bronson, fat Bron, skinny bron, Austin Hasn’t Got a Clue, Logan Let me Scalp My Fans Paul.”
The DQ was only the beginning of what WWE had planned. Reed kept attacking Oba after the bell, crushed him with a Tsunami and then embraced Breakker, making it clear that the two were back together. Breakker joined the beating with another spear while Reed kept going upstairs for more Tsunamis. Officials tried to intervene, but Oba ended up needing several people to finally keep him down.
That actually created another complaint from fans. One fan understood why WWE didn’t necessarily want a decisive winner yet, but felt the post-match attack made Breakker look worse rather than better.
“While we knew you couldn’t really have a winner in this match YET .. the fact that your match just said it takes 5 people to put down one person when one of those 5 people is supposed to be PART of the future of WWE is bad writing. To most people it said that Bron is weak!”
Reed’s involvement wasn’t completely out of nowhere. He had been sidelined for more than six months after tearing his right distal biceps on the February 23 episode of RAW, and WWE had already discussed a possible program between Reed and Oba once he returned.
That feud now looks like it has officially started, and WWE also managed to keep Oba and Breakker protected in the process. The problem is that plenty of fans saw exactly what WWE was doing, and instead of appreciating the protection, they wanted the match to actually give them an answer.
