Ludwig Kaiser just turned the El Grande Americano mask into a massive payday for a great cause.
Ludwig Kaiser revealed on Instagram that the match-used El Grande Americano mask from AAA Noche de Los Grandes sold at auction for $50,035. That is a huge jump from where the bidding sat earlier in June, when the mask had already passed $1,000.
“What an incredible result! Thank you so much for every single bid and to Fanatics. Stay tuned as we share the special handover to Dr. Sonrisas and the children 🇲🇽❤️”
The mask came from Kaiser’s May 30 match at AAA Noche de Los Grandes inside Arena Monterrey, where his El Grande Americano defeated Chad Gable’s “Original” El Grande Americano in a Máscara vs. Máscara match. The loss forced Gable to unmask in front of the crowd, making the mask a pretty serious piece of lucha libre history.
WWE had already confirmed that 100% of the net proceeds from the auction would be donated directly to the Dr. Sonrisas Foundation, which supports children facing life-threatening health conditions.
The auction description also made it clear this was not some clean replica. It was the actual match-used mask, hand-signed by Kaiser and left with the torn openings, frayed edges, and battle damage from the match. Bottom line, El Grande Americano kept the name, kept the mask, and now that same mask just brought in $50,035 for charity. Not a bad ending to one of AAA’s biggest storylines of the year.
