Dominik Mysterio’s bizarre SummerSlam loss just picked up another unwanted distinction. After the Human Monies on a Pole match divided fans all weekend, the backlash has now spilled over to Cagematch—and the numbers are brutal.
At the time of writing, Danhausen vs. Dominik Mysterio is sitting at 1.50, making it one of the lowest-rated WWE matches in Cagematch history. The reviews haven’t been much kinder. One user didn’t think the match deserved to exist in the first place, blasting everything from the stipulation to the comedy spots.
“This isn’t even worth reviewing. Stuff like this shouldn’t exist in any wrestling promotion. Danhausen isn’t a wrestler, and thankfully this should all be over in a few weeks. The crowd was already half asleep because of this mess. And we ended up wasting a Dominik Mysterio match just to watch little people being used as ladders. Give me a break.”
Another reviewer admitted there were a couple of entertaining moments but said they were buried underneath what they felt was an awful comedy match.
“As I expected, this was hot freaking trash, but had maybe two positives. Before the bullshit took center stage as expected, the wrestling between Dom and Danhausen wasn’t bad, it was actually OK. The El Torito Hausen showing up was nice cause he’s shockingly good and gave a wicked DDT to JD and did some amazing maneuvers to Dominik. Also finding out that one of my favorite comedians Brad Williams was one of the Minihausens is actually funny. However, the overall match wasn’t good at all, it was just your traditional unfunny comedy match with a horrible stipulation.”
The criticism comes less than a day after social media exploded over the result, with many fans questioning why Dominik—who beat the likes of John Cena and AJ Styles just last year—was put on the losing end of one of SummerSlam’s strangest matches.
The match itself featured JD McDonagh interfering, an army of Minihausens forming a human ladder, Joe Hendry smashing a guitar over McDonagh’s head, and Danhausen’s “curse” setting off exploding turnbuckle sparklers before he climbed up to claim the $100,000 prize.
WWE clearly intended the match to be over-the-top. Whether it becomes remembered for being entertaining or for becoming one of the lowest-rated matches in company history is looking like a very different conversation.
