Dominik Mysterio losing to Danhausen wasn’t exactly on many SummerSlam bingo cards. Judging by the reaction online, a lot of fans still can’t believe WWE actually went through with it.
The Judgment Day star came up short in the bizarre Human Monies on a Pole match after Danhausen’s “curse” and exploding turnbuckle spot helped him walk away with the $100,000 prize. Before long, the result had become one of the biggest talking points coming out of Night Two.
One fan couldn’t get over how dramatically Dominik’s fortunes have changed in just a year, pointing out how Myserio went from beating AJ Styles and John Cena last year to getting beaten by Danhausen.
“Dominik Mysterio beat AJ Styles and John Cena last year. Now, he lost to Danhausen. 🤡”
That frustration snowballed almost immediately as another said, “What yall have done to dom is criminal.” Others aimed their anger directly at Triple H, arguing Dominik deserved far better than being on the losing end of one of SummerSlam’s strangest matches.
“I hope you f***** rot @TripleH. Dom deserves better you piece of s***. Your whole product sucks. You’re a f****** bum.”
Another fan went even further, suggesting the loss had seriously damaged Dominik’s credibility: “Yeah I think it’s time Dom, WWE has just buried you.” One viewer looked at Dominik’s résumé and couldn’t understand how things ended here.
“Just a waste of Dom. Former IC champ. Current AAA champion loses to little people and a skinny guy.”
The backlash came after one of the most over-the-top matches of the entire weekend. The Human Monies on a Pole bout featured JD McDonagh getting involved, an army of Minihausens invading the ring, Joe Hendry smashing a guitar over McDonagh’s head and Danhausen using another “curse” that triggered exploding turnbuckle sparklers before grabbing the briefcase hanging above the ring.
It was exactly the kind of chaos WWE was aiming for. Whether fans ever accept Dominik Mysterio being the one who lost it is a completely different story.
