Dana Hall just revealed the massive price she paid to ride with Scott Hall before the money, fame and Razor Ramon swagger ever existed. Scott was still grinding his way through the wrestling business when Dana made a decision that changed her entire family — she let her two young sons go live with their father so she could pack her bags and hit the road with him.
Dana dropped the revelation during an appearance on Monte & The Pharaoh while taking fans all the way back to the beginning of her relationship with Scott. The two had known each other years earlier, but after reconnecting at JJ Whispers in Orlando around 1987, Dana said they were suddenly inseparable and moved in together fast.
There was one massive complication. Dana was already a mother of two, while Scott was a struggling wrestler taking smaller bookings and looking for his big break, and he wanted her right there beside him while he chased it. Dana said her sons were only around four years old when she made the incredibly difficult call to let them live with their father in Georgia. She kept visitation, but gave up physical custody so she could travel with Scott.
“Then we’re together all the time and we moved in together quickly and he’s—he wanted me to go. He was doing, um, just little things then and he wanted me to travel with him and I had the opportunity to let my sons, who were like almost four I guess, and it was kind of a hard decision, but they went to live with their dad in Georgia and I traveled with Scott and we went to Germany two years in a row. And I would see—I had visitation and I didn’t have physical custody of my boys.”
Dana wasn’t giving all of that up to live some glamorous wrestler-wife lifestyle, either. Scott wasn’t Razor Ramon yet, there were no nWo checks rolling in, and Dana said their trips through Germany were downright rough.
She recalled living in tiny caravans parked outside wrestling arenas with no bathrooms, showering inside the men’s locker room and even having to use a bucket when nature called. Dana flat-out said there was nothing luxurious about the experience, but she stuck beside Scott while he tried to turn his wrestling dream into something real.
The craziest part is Dana wasn’t even convinced Scott was going to make it. During one trip to Germany, she remembered walking past an appliance store with Scott when he spotted WWE playing on a television in the window and told her that was exactly where he wanted to end up.
“He said, ‘That’s what I want to do.’ And I’m looking at him like, ‘Yeah, right.’ You know, it’s—you think you’re going to be that famous or whatever. And I guess the joke was on me because it actually happened.”
Scott Hall obviously got the last laugh on that prediction. He became Razor Ramon, jumped to WCW with Kevin Nash and helped ignite the nWo, but Dana’s side of the story shows what was happening before fans ever saw the gold chains, toothpick and bad-guy attitude.
Dana has been ripping the curtain off that part of their life lately, including previously revealing disturbing details about Scott Hall’s battles with pills and alcohol and alleging that one drunken fight ended with him hitting her with a broom. She has also claimed that Scott Hall had almost no money left when he died, painting a much messier picture of the man behind one of wrestling’s coolest characters.
Scott Hall eventually got everything he was chasing inside the wrestling business, but Dana says she was there when there was absolutely no guarantee any of it would happen. She gave up physical custody of her young sons, followed him overseas and lived through the ugly grind before the wrestling world ever knew his name — and decades later, she’s finally telling people what that journey actually cost her.
