Cody Rhodes is not ruling out a heel turn forever, but he made it clear that he is not going to force one just because people online keep asking for it.

While speaking on What Do You Wanna Talk About? Cody addressed the constant speculation about when he might finally turn heel. He said that if the story ever requires it, he is open to taking that path, but right now, his current role lets him be himself.

“I think that’s one of the things too where, like, people ask all the time, ‘When are you gonna turn heel?’ And it’s like, if that’s what the role requires at some point, sure. But right now, I get to just be me.”

Cody then explained that being himself does not always mean getting cheered. He said some choices may get booed and others may get cheered, but he is not going to suddenly change his character just to satisfy online fantasy booking.

“And sometimes being me means making a decision that maybe gets booed. Sometimes it means making a decision that gets cheered. But I’m not gonna suddenly start acting like something I’m not just because somebody online thinks that’s the move.”

The American Nightmare stated that he has enjoyed getting to be himself during this run. If the story eventually moves in another direction, he is willing to follow it, but he is comfortable with where things stand right now.

“I’ve really enjoyed just getting to be myself in this run. And if eventually the story goes a different direction, then okay, that’s part of wrestling. But for now, I’m good with where I’m at.”

This comes after Cody previously softened his stance on a heel turn during an April 14, 2026 appearance on Unsportsmanlike. At the time, he admitted that he no longer believed his earlier hardline stance that a heel turn would never happen.

“Fans love when they don’t know the direction… I’ve been really bullish and really absolute, saying, ‘Oh, I don’t think there’s a heel turn for me at any point, and I’m against it.’ But at this point, I don’t believe that at all. I’m really open to all paths and avenues. I make the choices that I make, that I was raised to make, and I play myself when I’m out there—but you can’t really call this one and the direction it goes.”

For now, Cody is leaving the door open without promising anything. He understands that wrestling can shift, and a heel turn could happen if the story calls for it. However, he is also making it clear that online pressure alone will not be the reason he suddenly changes direction.

Cody Rhodes remains one of WWE’s top babyfaces, but his latest comments keep the conversation alive. He may not be turning heel right now, but he is no longer treating the idea like something completely impossible either.
