Cody Rhodes just gave Danhausen one of the biggest endorsements possible in WWE right now — calling him the king of the merch game.
While appearing on ESPN Unsportsmanlike, Rhodes was asked about Danhausen’s growing popularity in WWE, and the Undisputed WWE Champion admitted the bizarre fan-favorite has completely taken over when it comes to merchandise sales. Rhodes sounded both amused and impressed while trying to explain Danhausen’s strange rise inside WWE.
“Big D. I don’t know what. Do we think of Danhausen? I don’t know if I’m, I don’t know where I stand on him yet. Oh boy, I don’t know where I stand.”
Rhodes then pulled back the curtain a bit on their interactions backstage during autograph signings and fan events.
“He does. He’s part of the crew that does eight by 10s early in the day. We do a stack of them. There’s a small crew that do these and they sell them up at the stands, and now he has a stack and it sits next to my stack. And so we’ve had a couple moments in next to each other.”
Even though Rhodes joked he’s still trying to fully figure Danhausen out, he admitted the numbers speak for themselves.
“Don’t have the best read on, very nice, very evil, very rich. Don’t know enough about, but I think it’s safe to say Danhausen is one of the most popular people in all of WWE at the moment, and I don’t see it really stopping.”
Then came the line that’s likely going to get wrestling fans talking the most.
“He overtook the merch game. There’s all kinds of market confusion because the WWE shop website has a thing that people actually believe, but I’ll tell you who’s the king right now of the merch game. It’s Danhausen. He’s beating us all.”
Danhausen’s popularity has exploded since arriving in WWE, with his oddball personality, unique catchphrases, and cult following translating directly into major merchandise success. PWInsider previously reported that Danhausen became the No. 2 merchandise seller in all of WWE, with three different shirt designs sitting inside WWE Shop’s top five best sellers.
That’s especially notable considering the names he’s outperforming. WWE’s roster currently includes major merch movers like Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Rhea Ripley, and John Cena, yet Danhausen continues climbing higher.
Do you think Danhausen can eventually become WWE’s top merchandise seller overall? Let us know in the comments.
