Cody Rhodes knows the clock is ticking, and he’s not pretending he’ll be WWE’s top guy forever.
While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Cody Rhodes got real about his future in the ring. He said he doesn’t see himself still wrestling bell-to-bell 10 years from now, and by that point, WWE will probably have a new QB1.
“You said 10 years? I don’t think in 10 years… I do think it takes a toll at a certain point, and I don’t think in 10 years I’ll still be going. I think there will be another QB1 of WWE at that point.”
That’s a pretty big admission from one of WWE’s biggest stars. Cody is still performing at a top level, but he clearly understands what the grind does to a body. He also pointed out that he’s about to turn 41, and even though he feels great right now, full-time in-ring work probably won’t be his life a decade from now.
“As far as in-ring competition, I’ll be done. I’m turning 41 in a week, and I feel the best I’ve ever felt, but I do think that in 10 years I won’t be wrestling bell-to-bell, no.”
Then, the American Nightmare dropped a little contract tease. When asked what a future deal could look like, he said five years sounds about right.
“I think five years would… you know, five years sounds good. If I were to sign a new contract, maybe it would be for five years.”
So, Cody isn’t saying he’s done anytime soon. But he is making it very clear that he’s already thinking about the finish line. A five-year deal could give WWE plenty more time with The American Nightmare at the top, but even Cody knows there will eventually be another face of the company.
This also makes his past comments about possibly helping lead WWE after Triple H even more interesting. Cody has already said there could be a real fight for that kind of role, with names like CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Bayley, and Roman Reigns all having major voices in the company’s future.
For now, Cody Rhodes is still one of WWE’s biggest attractions, but he’s not trying to sell fans some fantasy where he’s wrestling full-time forever. He knows another QB1 is coming eventually — he just isn’t done carrying the ball yet.
Do you think Cody Rhodes should sign another five-year WWE deal, or could he still wrestle longer than he thinks? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
