While appearing on Ringer Wrestling’s The Masked Man Show, Chris Jericho opened up about his current mindset in AEW and why storytelling matters more to him than protecting wins and losses at this stage of his career.

Jericho discussed working with newer names in AEW, including Ricochet and Gates of Agony, while also addressing criticism from fans who question his role on television. According to Jericho, his goal has always been about helping build opponents and creating memorable stories rather than focusing on his own record.

“No, it’s amazing and that’s kind of the idea, you know, that’s why I still love wrestling and still you know, feel that I that I’m doing it on a high level because it’s it’s great to go in there with Ricochet. We’d never crossed paths before.”

Jericho then explained that he believes people who truly understand wrestling can see what he is trying to accomplish creatively with younger talent.

“My goal is always to build my opponent. Always. And I think if you look and you really know the business, you can see that with everybody that I’ve been in the ring with.”

The AEW veteran admitted not every storyline lands perfectly, but he insisted the effort and intention are always there behind the scenes.

“Once in a while it doesn’t work the way you want it to, but once again not by lack of effort.”

Jericho eventually summed up his philosophy with a direct statement about how he views his role in wrestling today.

“My mindset is always set in what can we do to make this the best possible show. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. I don’t care. I care about making the best story possible.”

After more than three decades in wrestling, Jericho continues reinventing himself while taking pride in helping create stories with newer stars across AEW programming. Whether fans agree with every direction or not, Jericho made it clear that his focus is no longer centered on personal victories.
