Big E is still part of WWE, but don’t expect him to jump into the weekly commentary chair anytime soon.
During a conversation with The A2theK Wrestling Show, the former WWE Champion opened up about his current role as a WWE broadcaster and panelist. He was asked whether he would ever consider moving into commentary, and he made it clear that the idea has already been brought to him by some major names.
Big E said Michael Cole has personally asked him about doing commentary more than once, and others in WWE have floated the same idea. He appreciates the confidence, but he knows exactly what that job comes with.
“So, actually, you know, I’m grateful to Michael Cole for multiple times. He kind of stopped me and asked me about doing commentary. I’ve had other people ask me about doing commentary. So, that has definitely come up. I will say I am grateful for that belief. I truly truly appreciate it. But I just know where I’m at in life as someone who did the road grind. I did it. I’m grateful for it. Frankly, I just don’t want to be on the road like that every single week. It’s a lot, man. It’s a lot of time.”
Big E didn’t sugarcoat the reality of WWE’s weekly travel schedule either. He broke down what it means to be tied to shows like SmackDown and RAW every single week, and it’s clear he has already paid those dues.
“And mind you, like if you’re doing SmackDown, you’re leaving on Thursdays and you’re coming home on Saturdays. If that’s international, you might not come home till very late Saturday, but you know, so that’s that. So that’s a part of your weekend’s gone. Same thing with with RAW. You’re traveling on Sundays.”
That road life isn’t calling him anymore. Big E said he has come to enjoy his weekends with his fiancée Kristen, hanging out with friends, taking trips, and just living outside the WWE bubble for once.
“So the idea of you know, I love my lazy weekends. You know, I’m still working. I’m still doing a lot of other things, juggling other projects, but my lazy weekends with my lady with Kristen where we’re just like that time together or the time I now get Here’s the problem is I realize there’s life outside of wrestling and it ain’t that bad, you know? It’s kind of nice.”
Big E also gave props to Michael Cole and the rest of WWE’s commentary crew for making that sacrifice for so many years. He clearly respects the job, but that doesn’t mean he wants to live that schedule himself.
“It’s nice to be able to do stuff with friends or to go on a vacation. Like, I want to live, man. And I tip of the cap to Cole and to so many of these commentators that have been doing this for decades. I am so blown away like that sacrifice to have been on the road for that long and do so much of that.”
For now, Big E sounds much happier with his current setup. He still gets to be involved with WWE through PLE broadcast work and hosting projects, including WWE’s Raw Classics on Netflix.
“The nice thing with my current schedule with being a broadcaster for the PLE’s is I’m still involved. I really love getting to I got to do a host a Netflix show called Raw Classics. Just kind of breaking down some of the old school our library and some newer stuff as well and just kind of getting to walk some newer fans through a lot of the history of WWE and maybe some current fans as well.”
Big E has already given a huge chunk of his life to WWE’s road schedule, and now he’s choosing something a lot of wrestlers never get to enjoy: balance. He’s still on WWE programming, still connected to the product, and still able to use his personality in front of the camera, but he’s doing it without losing every weekend to airports, hotels, and TV tapings.
