WWE had their eye on Gable Steveson long before the rest of the world even noticed him. He has top Superstar written all over him and there is a lot of hope in his future with the company. After inking a WWE deal, many Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar comparisons were made right off the bat, but nothing happened for such a long time. Now, we are at another crossroads.

Gable Steveson showed up in NXT, as he helped Eddy Thorpe train for a RAW Underground match against Steveson’s own brother, Damon Kemp, in July 2023. Weeks later, he had match against Baron Corbin at the Great American Bash. Gable Steveson then had a nice dark segment during WWE RAW in his home state in early August.

WWE fans were a bit surprised when Gable Steveson signed up for the freestyle division in the Senior World Championships. They were even more shocked when he pulled out of the tournament couple of weeks later.

Gable Steveson pulling out of the Senior World Championships was noted as “weird”. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that, “it was so weird to me because last week he was still listed as doing it, but every time I asked people at WWE, ‘Is he doing it?’ I never got an answer … They had to approve him doing it.”

This came after Gable Steveson returned to the mat and retired from amateur wrestling when he picked up his 2nd NCAA Championship.

Ringside News exclusively reported in August that, Gable Steveson was an “NXT talent for now, main roster eyes are always on him though.” Now, there is a big question mark above Steveson’s head, because his name was reportedly removed from the roster.

Dave Meltzer stated in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that, “Steveson has been officially removed from the NXT roster. I don’t know what that means past that’s happened, and there are no plans for him in NXT at this moment.”

Ringside News reached out to inquire about Gable Steveson’s current situation in WWE. We were told by a tenured member of the team that Gable Steveson’s situation in WWE is unclear. It is not known what the current situation with him is, after they were keeping their eyes on him a month ago.

Gable Steveson was big signing for WWE, and the company even set up remote training facility, so he could continue to hone his craft in the ring as he continued his studies at the University of Minnesota. At that time, Steveson was thought to be exclusive to WWE. As the company’s first-ever NIL signing, it was said that Steveson joined the WWE roster “while defending his NCAA title for the University of Minnesota.”

There were plans to push him on RAW, and he was even drafted to the plan, then things simmered, and he never showed up on the red team. In 2022, Ringside News exclusively reported that Triple H nixed plans to use the Olympic Gold medalist. Later on that year, it was revealed that Gable started training at the WWE Performance Center once again after having a heart procedure.

Only time will tell what happens with Gable Steveson in WWE. He received a few “you’re not Angle” chants at the Great American Bash, so he still had a lot of room to grow in the ring. Steveson certainly has loads of potential as a WWE Superstar if he wants it.

What do you think Gable Steveson should do? Does he belong in WWE? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you think!

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
