Wes Lee finally overcame the odds when he defeated four other men for the vacant North American Championship during NXT Halloween Havoc tonight. The newly-crowned champion shared an emotional moment with Shawn Michaels backstage.

Wes Lee won the fatal five-way ladder match for the vacant NXT North American Championship after a grueling battle. He was even tossed to the announcer’s table by Von Wagner at one point during the match.

Wes Lee went backstage and caught up with Shawn Michaels. The two shared a hug and Lee was seen trying to hold back his tears. The hard work finally paid off for Lee after all these years in NXT.

For former NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, however, things seems to even better. The A-Champ failed to win the title for the third time. He did tease his main roster call-up after the match.
