Buddy Murphy lost his first name in WWE, but now Murphy is no longer with the company no matter what you call him. He joins several other Superstars who the company released today.

According to Fightful, Murphy’s name joined Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, and Lana in the latest wave of releases. This was a shocking turn of events for fans who hopes to see Murphy and Aalyah Mysterio’s storyline continue in some fashion.

Murphy was coming off of SmackDown’s hottest storyline in 2020. His romantic angle with Aalyah Mysterio captured plenty of attention. Then it was dropped after Seth Rollins took a hiatus, and WWE never found another use for Murphy.

Murphy now joins his former tag team partner Wesley Blake in the free agent pool. Blake, who held the NXT Tag Team Titles with Murphy, was released in April. We will have to see what is next for everyone involved.

Once considered WWE’s “Best Kept Secret,” Buddy Murphy will be free to share that secret wherever he likes once his 90-day non-compete clause is up.

WWE sent a few big names into the free agent pool today. Now we will have to see where they all land.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
