Lars Sullivan returned to WWE television this week on SmackDown. They also promptly added The Freak to Monday’s WWE Draft Pool. What took him so long to return?

According to Fightful Select, Sullivan’s recovery from injury was an “uphill battle” It was said that people in the company “indicated that Sullivan ended up having to get both knees fixed.”

The outlook was that Sullivan would be out of action for 16-18 months instead. He did spend a lot of time preparing for his in-ring return, but his name made headlines in the meantime as well.

It was mentioned that there was heat on Lars Sullivan for the racially insensitive comments he made on bodybuilding message board years ago. The fact that a homoerotic video starring Sullivan wasn’t mentioned at all.

For what it’s worth, Ringside News exclusively reported on October 1st that Lars Sullivan’s name was coming up in the creative team once again. One thing were were told is that nobody was talking about his past as Mitch Bennett at all.
