Sami Zayn wasn’t in Saudi Arabia for the Greatest Royal Rumble even though he was supposedly going to be at the event.

Brad Shepard reported on Bodyslam.net that Zayn was told by WWE that he wasn’t needed for the big Saudi Arabia show. Although it wasn’t explicitly said the feeling backstage was reported that Zayn was told he wasn’t needed because of his Syrian Muslim heritage.

WWE had a statement on the matter simply saying, “WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world.” This sounds like WWE is admitted to leaving Zayn at home due to the respect for their Saudi Arabian interests.

Now Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that their sources also back up Shepard’s report saying that Zayn didn’t volunteer to miss the show nor did he miss for any other reason. Zayn was simply told he wasn’t needed on the show for the same reason that the women were told to stay at home because WWE didn’t want to risk upsetting the profitable business deal with the Saudis.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
