The May 8 episode of WWE SmackDown went down at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. This was a special night for the blue brand because they got to bid farewell to a beloved character that fans barely got to know.

The Gingerbread Man passed away, and the WWE Universe was shocked by the news. This week on SmackDown, they paid their respects to the late mascot.

They played a few clips from Gingerbread Man’s wake during the show. Sami Zayn was not happy about how many Superstars wanted to pay their respects to the character that was invented to troll him.

When the funeral finally came, it went down during the main event segment of the show. They did the ring up like a funeral, with the Gingerbread Man in a casket in the center, and then Trick Williams came out to a sea of chants.

Trick Williams started off the ceremony by singing a little song. He wanted to know why the Gingerman Man had to die. Then they played a video that was made up of 100% AI generated images of the Gingerbread Man in different places. It was really bad, but that was probably on purpose.

Then Sami Zayn came out to stop the ceremony as he was booed heavily by fans. Sami came out to ask Trick how much he paid for the ceremony, and then he said that the choir Trick brought in was off-key. The casket was solid oak, but he didn’t mention that the video only cost a $20 ChatGPT subscription. Sami made a point that this whole bit was an effort to troll him.

Trick Williams got in the ring after that as he said he didn’t understand what Trick Williams’ problem was. Nobody has been able to knock Sami off his game, especially Trick. He said, “Sorry about your loss, but I’ll see you tomorrow at Backlash,” and then Sami jumped Trick. Sami Zayn ended the show as he raised the United States Title over his head.

Then the Gingerbread Man got out of the casket and revealed that it was Lil Yachty under the mascot head. Lil Yachty hit Sami Zayn with the cane that was in the Gingerbread Man’s hands and then Williams nailed a Trick Shot to close out the show.

Molly Holly was listed internally as the producer for this segment. She has been involved with WWE’s backstage production for a while, but this may have been one of her most popular segments to date.
