Trick Williams may have beaten Ricky Saints at Night of Champions, but WWE might already have another opponent waiting for him.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the planned United States Championship match for SummerSlam was Trick Williams vs. Carmelo Hayes as of a few weeks ago. That changes the way Night of Champions looks.
Ricky Saints earned his shot after beating Carmelo Hayes in a No. 1 Contender’s Match, but Saints may have only been a detour. Trick retained in Saudi Arabia after dropping Saints with the Trick Shot, keeping the United States Title right where WWE apparently needed it.
Then Lil Yachty came back after the match and made things even uglier, blasting Saints with a kendo stick before hitting a People’s Elbow and celebrating with Trick. So Saints got the match, but Carmelo may still be the SummerSlam play.
That rivalry already has the history WWE loves. Trick and Melo were once tied together, then everything got messy. Add the United States Championship, and WWE has an easy SummerSlam grudge match ready to go.
Now the question is whether plans changed after Night of Champions, or if WWE is still saving Trick vs. Melo for the bigger stage. Either way, Trick Williams is still champion, Ricky Saints is bruised, and Carmelo Hayes may not be out of the title picture just yet.
