Rusev’s WWE comeback might look a little different than fans were expecting. After an injury messed with the company’s original plans for him, WWE apparently has a new direction ready to go — and it ties directly into something that just happened on RAW.
While speaking during a Self Made Session, Self Made Pro revealed that Rusev is expected to join Ethan Page and Big Cass, with WWE planning to make the three an official stable right away.
“I can also tell you that expect Rusev, Ethan Page, and Big Cass to be a formal stable immediately.”
That’s a pretty big development considering Rusev was originally supposed to be involved with Page before his injury got in the way. WrestleVotes previously reported that WWE had been looking for someone to pair with Page, and Rusev was initially the guy they had in mind. With Rusev still working his way back, WWE went in another direction and put Cass alongside Page instead.
“It was supposed to be Rusev. Rusev’s dealing with a little injury. He’s on his way back.”
At the time, it looked like Rusev had simply lost his spot in the whole thing. Turns out WWE may have just decided to make the idea bigger. Page and Cass officially got things rolling on the October 26 edition of RAW when they teamed against Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable and Dragon Lee. They didn’t waste much time proving the pairing was serious either, as Page caught Lee with an Ego Plex to pick up the win for his team.
Now Rusev is apparently about to enter the picture and turn the duo into a full three-man stable. That would also give Rusev an immediate direction after spending months away from WWE television. His absence started after the July 27 episode of RAW, when he landed awkwardly on his neck during a match against Je’Von Evans and experienced numbness in his hands.
Rusev still finished the match before quickly heading backstage, which initially led to some speculation that he was pissed about losing. CJ Perry later cleared that up, explaining that Rusev was actually in considerable pain and wanted WWE’s medical team to check him out.
Things finally started moving in the right direction in September when Perry revealed that Rusev had been medically cleared. He returned to the ring at WWE’s October 16 live event in Honolulu, wrestling Joe Hendry in his first match in nearly three months.
Rusev’s injury may have forced WWE to change the original plan, but it clearly didn’t kill the idea of putting him alongside Page. Instead, his time away may have accidentally helped turn a two-man pairing into an entirely new faction.
What kind of impact do you think Rusev could make once he gets back on WWE television, and how would you book his first night back? Let us know what you think in the comments.
