The Creed Brothers’ WWE exit may have looked pretty sudden from the outside, especially considering they were wrestling on NXT just weeks ago. But a new backstage update suggests there was more going on behind the scenes before Julius and Brutus Creed officially walked out the door.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez revealed there had actually been a belief within WWE that the Creeds were probably finished with the company once their run in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic ended. Their contracts were coming up, and apparently some people backstage weren’t exactly shocked when they ultimately left.

“Even before today, there had been a belief in WWE that the Creeds were likely done after the Dusty Cup. Their contracts were coming due. I did hear a couple of things, like people in WWE were kinda, like, not really surprised they ended up out of the company.”

That puts their final few weeks in WWE in a slightly different light. Julius and Brutus were still being used on NXT, but their October 20 loss to Hank Walker and Tank Ledger in the Dusty Classic quarterfinals ended up being their final match with the company.

Their status initially became a mystery when both brothers suddenly appeared in the Alumni section of WWE’s website. There was no announcement at the time, making it unclear whether they were actually gone or somebody had simply messed around with the roster pages. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select later confirmed that the Creeds had indeed left WWE after their contracts expired. Their departure was described as a mutual parting of ways.

“The Creeds have left WWE, Fightful Select has confirmed. It appears to be a mutual parting of ways as their deal has expired.”

The brothers had only returned to NXT in September, defeating Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno before entering the Dusty Classic. That came after a 2026 run that included Main Event appearances, AAA matches and their masked Bruto Creedo and Julio Creedo roles in the El Grande Americano storyline.

Now the interesting part is where the brothers go from here. Their contracts simply reaching the finish line means Julius and Brutus can move into whatever comes next, and Alvarez’s update makes it sound like WWE had already been preparing for that possibility before everyone else knew they were gone.
