WWE has finally filled in the blank for tonight’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and the tournament is kicking off with a pretty wild first-round matchup. The September 22 episode of WWE NXT will officially launch the 2026 tournament with Los Americanos taking on Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno, giving fans their first look at which team will make an early move toward the trophy.
WWE confirmed the matchup shortly before the show, asking fans who they have between Los Americanos and the team of Dar and Moreno. The match had previously been advertised simply as a first-round Dusty Classic bout with the teams still to be announced.
The tournament’s return was announced last week by NXT General Manager Robert Stone, with WWE putting together a field that reaches well beyond the usual NXT roster. RAW, SmackDown, Evolve and AAA talent are all represented, making this year’s bracket one of the more stacked versions of the tournament.
Los Americanos will now get the first crack at moving forward when they collide with Dar and Moreno. With the entire tournament still wide open, somebody is walking out of tonight’s show as the first team officially one step closer to winning the 2026 Dusty Cup.
That match joins an already busy September 22 NXT card. La Catalina and Thea Hail will team against NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan and NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria after tensions between all four women exploded last week. Zilla Fatu will also be in action alongside Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux when they face Birth Right’s Lexis King, Channing Lorenzo and Uriah Connors in six-man tag team action.
The updated WWE NXT lineup for September 22, 2026 now includes:

- 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round: Los Americanos vs. Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno
- Zilla Fatu, Sean Legacy & Dorian Van Dux vs. Birth Right (Lexis King, Channing Lorenzo & Uriah Connors)
WWE kept fans waiting on exactly who would open the Dusty Classic, but that mystery is officially over. Los Americanos and Dar & Moreno now have the pressure of setting the tone for the entire tournament, and one of those teams is getting bounced before the night is over.
