WWE is still packing buildings, but the company’s massive live event surge has cooled off during the first half of 2026.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WrestleTix has WWE averaging 10,810 fans per live event through the first six months of the year. That is a 23.5% drop from the 14,132 average WWE posted during the same stretch in 2025.

That decline looks rough on paper, but the bigger picture tells a different story. An average crowd of around 6,000 fans has traditionally been considered normal for WWE, while anything over 7,000 is viewed as very good.

WWE’s current 10,810 average still puts 2026 in rare territory. The company finished 2025 with a record average of 13,200 fans, while only four other complete years have ever topped 10,000. Those years were 2024 at 10,700, 2001 at 10,200, 2000 at 11,800 and 1999 at 10,600. That means WWE could take a major step backward from last year and still finish 2026 with one of the strongest attendance averages in company history.

Meltzer also pointed out that before WWE’s latest boom began, the company had not averaged more than 7,000 fans since 2006. That includes most of John Cena’s run as WWE’s top star, despite Cena frequently being placed alongside the biggest draws the company has ever produced.

WWE’s previous hot streak fell apart after Steve Austin turned heel in 2001 and The Rock began shifting his attention toward Hollywood. Even purchasing WCW and ECW failed to stop attendance from sliding.

Business finally started turning around once WWE faced legitimate competition again beginning in 2019. Since then, the company has posted attendance numbers that would have seemed impossible during much of the previous two decades.

WWE may be down more than 23% compared to last year, but this is not a case of empty arenas or fans abandoning the product. The company is coming down from a record-setting pace and still drawing crowds that rank among the biggest in its history.

Do you think WWE’s attendance decline is something the company should be worried about, or was 2025 simply an impossible year to match? Let us know in the comments.
