Will Ospreay has never been shy about giving his opinion on WWE, but now the AEW star says he couldn’t care less about other wrestling promotions. That’s an interesting statement coming from someone who has repeatedly weighed in on WWE and the competition between the two companies.
During an interview on Game On ahead of AEW WrestleDream, Ospreay was asked whether he gets tired of people constantly bringing up WWE and questioning when he might eventually make the jump to the company.
Ospreay acknowledged that those questions are part of being a professional wrestler, but insisted that his focus remains on AEW. He also explained why he believes AEW is changing the wrestling business and why he doesn’t concern himself with other promotions.
“I know it’s a part of the gig. People always ask, and I can only give my opinion. I don’t really care about it. I’d rather focus on AEW, and I’d rather focus on what we’re able to do here and what I believe AEW is doing, which is changing the face of professional wrestling. I love what we present. I love what we do. I love our wrestling. I love everything that we’re all about. So I couldn’t really care less about any other promotion.”
That’s a pretty interesting position considering Ospreay’s history of discussing WWE. He’s frequently shared his thoughts about the company, addressed comparisons between the two promotions, and offered his opinions whenever WWE-related topics have come up in interviews.
The interviewer then shifted the conversation toward the ongoing AEW vs. WWE debate among wrestling fans, asking whether constantly comparing the two companies does more harm than good to professional wrestling. Ospreay didn’t seem particularly concerned about the comparisons and suggested that wrestlers simply need to accept them.
“It’s just part of the game, boss. You just got to learn to take it.”
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with Ospreay having an opinion about another wrestling company. AEW and WWE are constantly compared by fans, and it’s only natural that prominent wrestlers from both promotions get asked about the competition. However, saying he couldn’t care less about other promotions is a little harder to reconcile with how often he’s been willing to discuss WWE in the past.
For now, Ospreay insists that his attention is on AEW and helping the company continue growing. Whether that means he’ll stop weighing in on WWE remains to be seen, but given his history, it wouldn’t be surprising if the subject comes up again before long.
Do you think Will Ospreay’s claim that he doesn’t care about other wrestling promotions contradicts how frequently he’s discussed WWE, or is he simply answering questions when they come his way? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
