Drew McIntyre has absolutely no problem running his mouth about CM Punk, but now he’s taking things a step further. The former WWE Champion says that if their issues ever turned into a real fight, Punk wouldn’t stand a chance — and he even used Punk’s UFC career to make his point.
During his appearance on the Raw Talk podcast, McIntyre was asked about his relationship with Punk outside WWE television. The two spent much of 2024 trying to destroy each other on-screen, but Drew made it clear that, at least from his perspective, the bad blood doesn’t disappear when the cameras stop rolling.
McIntyre claimed he actively avoids Punk backstage and doesn’t particularly enjoy being around him. However, he acknowledged that both men understand how to put their personal feelings aside when it’s time to work together. That’s when he took a pretty wild shot at what would happen if they ever stopped being professional.
“But also, we have to be professional and not pan each other’s heads. When I say we pan each other’s heads, I would murder him. You see him in UFC? Would look like that if it got real in there.”
The host couldn’t believe what he was hearing and asked McIntyre whether he genuinely thought he could take Punk in a real fight. Drew didn’t back down one bit. In fact, he brushed off the idea that having mixed martial arts or Brazilian jiu-jitsu experience would automatically give somebody an advantage against him.
“Oh, for real life? I don’t care how many jiu-jitsu guys that tell me like, ‘Yeah, I’m MMA bros.’ Did you fight for the UFC? No, shut up. I said, ‘I will crush you. I’m giant and Scottish and many fights happen.'”
McIntyre then joked about how people approach professional wrestlers and ask whether they would use wrestling moves in an actual fight. He made it clear that wouldn’t be his approach.
“Guys are like, ‘Hey man, I’m going to — you’re going to chokeslam me? You got a tombstone?’ I was like, ‘No, I’m going to punch [you].’ I say the C word with a thick Scottish accent. Oh, Jesus. He’s a psycho. Yeah, I am. Don’t push me.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time McIntyre has made his feelings about Punk known. As Ringside News previously covered, Drew admitted that his issues with Punk were personal, explaining that their genuine frustrations helped make their 2024 rivalry work so well.
That rivalry included several brutal encounters, culminating in CM Punk defeating McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell at WWE Bad Blood 2024. While Punk got the last laugh inside WWE’s ring, Drew apparently has a very different opinion about what would happen without wrestling rules.
McIntyre clearly loves taking shots at Punk, and his latest comments show he isn’t interested in letting their rivalry die quietly. Whether he’s genuinely serious about his fighting abilities or simply enjoying another opportunity to humiliate Punk, he’s certainly not worried about offending his former rival. And considering how much mileage WWE got out of their hatred for each other, Drew might be giving the company more ammunition for whenever these two cross paths again.
