Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo suffered a nasty injury at a WWE NXT live event, but there’s finally some encouraging news after the wrestler was stretchered out of the arena and taken to the hospital.
The scary incident happened during the October 16 NXT house show in Sudbury, Ontario, where Stacks teamed with Charlie Dempsey, Lexis King and Uriah Connors against Tony D’Angelo, Tavion Heights, Shiloh Hill and Shawn Spears. Things went wrong when Stacks took a back body drop over the top rope and crashed onto the floor, forcing WWE to stop the match.
Medical personnel rushed to check on Lorenzo before placing him on a stretcher and taking him out of the arena. Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer later confirmed that Stacks had been transported to a nearby hospital, while Dave Meltzer noted that there were concerns he may have suffered a concussion.
The injury was serious enough that WWE called off the match entirely. Spears then addressed the crowd, apologizing for how the night ended and reminding fans that unexpected accidents can happen inside the ring.
“Thank you for coming out tonight. Unfortunately things happen in this ring that are unexpected. You’ve heard us say 1000 times we’re one big family in WWE. You all are included and are a part of our family. When something serious such as this takes place it’s not easy. I’m sorry we had to end the night like this. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for coming out tonight.”
WWE still managed to give fans one final moment before sending them home. BirthRight attacked the opposing team after the match was stopped, leading to Heights, Hill, Spears and D’Angelo fighting back and putting Uriah Connors through a table. But the biggest concern was obviously Stacks, who had already been taken away for medical attention. Thankfully, Connors provided some good news on Saturday, October 17. He took to Twitter and reassured fans that his BirthRight teammate was doing well following the incident.
“My boys alive and well!! We can’t be stopped, last of a dying breed! Thanks for checkin on em, I got his ass.”
That’s certainly a relief after what happened in Sudbury. However, Connors didn’t provide any details about Lorenzo’s injuries, and there’s still no confirmation about whether he actually suffered a concussion. WWE also hasn’t announced when Stacks will be cleared to wrestle again. For now, the important thing is that his teammate says he’s alive and well after an incident that brought the entire main event to a halt.
Stacks’ injury turned what was supposed to be another routine NXT live event into a frightening situation, but at least fans have gotten some encouraging news since he was taken to the hospital. Whether he needs additional recovery time remains to be seen, and WWE will have to wait until he’s medically cleared before bringing him back into action.
