Vince Russo wants Paul Heyman nowhere near the middle of Bron Breakker and Oba Femi. Speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, Russo argued that WWE already has two potential franchise stars on its hands and adding Heyman only creates problems that neither man needs.
The discussion came after Breakker and Femi went face-to-face during a contract signing on Monday Night RAW. Jonathan Coachman questioned why WWE would put them against each other this early, especially when a decisive finish could establish one man as the company’s top young star and knock the other down a level.
“I just disagree with putting them together so quickly. I really do. But right now, this is a match you can sell. Oba and Bron—now, who wins clean? If this is a clean thing, then we’re going to know who’s number one and who’s number one-B.”
Russo’s bigger concern was Heyman’s involvement. He argued that Breakker and Femi are capable of carrying the program without Heyman standing between them.
“I hate Paul Heyman in the middle of this. I don’t think he’s needed. I think these are two of their stars in the future.”
Russo could see one possible reason for Heyman’s involvement, but even that would require WWE to make a dangerous move. He suggested Heyman could side with Femi, screw Breakker and turn Breakker babyface—but Russo would be shocked if WWE sacrificed Femi’s popularity to make it happen.
“Here’s the only thing, and God, I would be shocked if they do this: if they wound up turning Oba Femi heel and Heyman goes with him, they screw Bron and Bron is the babyface because Heyman was already with Bron.”
Russo then pointed directly to Breakker’s family. With Rick Steiner as his father and Scott Steiner as his uncle, Russo sees no logical reason for Breakker to need Heyman guiding his career.
“If my dad is Rick Steiner and my uncle is Scott, I don’t need Paul Heyman. I’m bringing those two guys out with me because that’s the whole thing.”
If Heyman chooses Breakker, Russo said WWE would simply be repeating something fans have already seen. It would also ignore the two wrestling legends Breakker has available in his own family.
“If Paul Heyman chooses a side, he’s going to choose the Bron Breakker side. We’ve already been there and done that. Why would Bron do that with his father and his uncle? That doesn’t make any sense.”
Putting Heyman with Femi would create a completely different problem. Femi has become one of WWE’s most popular young stars, and Russo believes turning him heel now would be a major mistake.
“If you go the other way, for as over as Oba Femi is right now, you want to turn him heel? I don’t think that would be a very smart decision. I can’t see them doing that.”
Coachman agreed that Breakker needs the chance to speak and develop on his own instead of leaning on Heyman to handle every major promo.
“We don’t need it. We need him to be able to fly and not have the crutch of that promo that Paul always nails for you. If you want to become the star at the level he believes he is—and we believe he can be—he needs to do it.”
Russo also noted that children throughout the arena are already reacting to Femi, making a heel turn even harder to justify.
“You can’t turn him heel. You can’t turn him heel.”
Russo sees Breakker and Femi as two future cornerstones who should be allowed to carry their own rivalry. In his view, Heyman choosing either side would either repeat the past or force WWE to damage a star who is already connecting with the crowd.
