Vince Russo has seen enough of WWE’s announce table spots. After watching Sunday Night’s Main Event, Russo practically begged WWE Creative to stop sending wrestlers through or around the table in multiple matches on the same show and start making the spot feel special again.
While speaking on The Coach & Bro Show, Russo brought up the announce table after seeing Baron Corbin and Lil Yachty use it during their match earlier in the night. With Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton still waiting for their main event, Russo felt the table should have been completely off limits until then.
“If anyone from WWE Creative is listening to me, PLEASE stop with the announce table. If I am in the main event, if I’m Cody and Orton, I’m telling the rest of the locker room no one is going near the announce table till the end of the night, and that would be us.”
Russo wasn’t exactly subtle about how much the repetition bothered him. He immediately went into full rant mode and pleaded with WWE to knock it off.
“STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT!”
His biggest issue was seeing Corbin and Yachty going near the announce table in the first match. Russo couldn’t understand why WWE would burn through that kind of spot so early when there was an entire show still to come.
“There is no reason for Baron Corbin and YACHT to go to the announce table in the first match! Stop it, guys. Stop using the table in every freaking match! You got to start making things mean something again. Please, I’m begging you.”
Russo believes the wrestlers in the main event should have enough influence to make sure something they plan on doing hasn’t already been repeated earlier in the night. If he were Cody or Orton, he says he would have made that very clear to everyone backstage.
“If I’m the main event, I’m the one dictating that. I’m the one saying, ‘You guys have been wrestling for 10, 15 years. You can’t come up with something creative besides clearing the announce table?’”
For Russo, the announce table itself isn’t really the problem. It’s how often WWE goes back to it. Something that could generate a huge reaction has become an easy way of getting a pop, and Russo believes constantly repeating it has taken away what made it effective in the first place.
“Stop with the freaking announce table! It’s such a crutch for a pop. Stop it, man. Make it special again.”
That frustration ties into Russo’s bigger problem with modern wrestling. He believes the business has gone so far in one direction that fixing everything overnight isn’t realistic anymore, but WWE can at least start correcting those habits individually.
“The thing with the wrestling business right now, we’re at the point now that they’ve gone so far one way, there’s only one way to make the adjustment, and that’s one thing at a time.”
Russo isn’t asking WWE to throw away the announce table spot completely. He wants them to stop treating it like something every match can reach for whenever it needs an easy reaction. If everyone gets to use the same trick, eventually there isn’t much special about it when the main event finally does it.
