Val Venis caught plenty of heat after turning Sami Zayn’s WWE Championship win into a 9/11 conspiracy theory. He has now responded to that backlash, but he isn’t taking back the part that started the controversy.
Venis took to Twitter and said he wanted to make one thing clear: he doesn’t personally hate Zayn. He congratulated him on becoming champion again before shifting the blame toward WWE and the people currently making decisions in the company.
So while Venis says his issue isn’t with Zayn personally, he still believes there was something questionable about WWE putting its championship on a Muslim wrestler on September 11. He also brought Vince McMahon into the conversation, claiming the former WWE Chairman wouldn’t have made the same booking decision.
“📢 Let me be clear(because media has a difficult time being honest): I harbor no personal hatred toward Sami Zayn. I congratulate him on another world-title run and wish him well. My objection is to the company that judged it appropriate to place the championship on a Muslim performer on the twenty-fifth anniversary of September 11. I do not believe Vince McMahon would have made that booking. Those now in control of WWE leave me with questions.”
The backlash started after Zayn defeated CM Punk for the WWE Championship on the September 11 episode of SmackDown. Venis quickly focused on Zayn’s religion and the fact that the victory happened on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Venis then tried to connect the title change to TKO CEO Ari Emanuel through his father, Benjamin Emanuel, born Benjamin Auerbach. He eventually tied that into his unsupported claim that the CIA and Mossad were responsible for 9/11 before bringing the theory right back to Zayn.

There is no evidence that Zayn’s religion had anything to do with WWE’s decision to make him champion. There is also no evidence supporting Venis’ claim that the CIA and Mossad carried out 9/11, which was perpetrated by 19 al-Qaeda hijackers. So, Val Venis says he has nothing against Sami Zayn and even wished him well as champion. He just hasn’t dropped the argument that got everyone angry with him in the first place.
