In WWE’s RAW in Mexico vlog, Triple H caught up with Dragon Lee backstage after the former NXT North American Champion took a brutal table bump during his match against Chad Gable. While he praised Lee for the performance, he also made it clear he doesn’t want to see him taking risks like that every week. Triple H then delivered the line that immediately stood out.
“Dude, f******* badass. Hey, do me a favor though. That table bump? Yeah. Keep that f****** special. That’s a now-and-then one. I need you here long term, not short term.”
Considering the recent speculation surrounding Dragon Lee’s contract, it’s hard not to notice the timing of that comment. It wasn’t a contract announcement by any means, but it was a pretty strong public endorsement from WWE’s Chief Content Officer that he sees Lee as someone the company wants around for years to come.
That also matches what has been reported behind the scenes. Speaking during a Self Made Session, Self Made Pro said he doesn’t believe Dragon Lee is going anywhere once his current deal expires. He added that the expectation within the company is the same.
“I’ll say this. I don’t think he’s going to leave WWE. I was given the indication that, like, people don’t anticipate Dragon Lee looking to leave WWE.”
The contract rumors picked up after reports revealed that both Dragon Lee and his brother, Dralistico, are nearing the end of their current deals. The brothers also filed a trademark for “Hermanos Lee,” leading many fans to wonder whether Dragon Lee could eventually explore free agency.
For now, though, everything seems to be pointing in the opposite direction. Between the backstage confidence that he’ll stay and Triple H personally telling him he needs him “long term,” WWE doesn’t appear to be treating Dragon Lee like someone who’s on his way out. It’ll now be interesting to see when those expectations turn into a new contract.
