Trick Williams is already planning big changes after winning the United States Championship at WrestleMania 42, and it sounds like weekly open challenges could be coming to an end.

Williams defeated Sami Zayn to capture the United States Title on the WrestleMania 42 stage, giving him his first championship win on WWE’s main roster. After the show, he appeared on SportsCenter and made it clear that he wants his title defenses to feel like major events instead of routine weekly matches. While talking about how he plans to carry himself as champion, Williams stressed that he takes the role seriously and doesn’t want to hand out title matches every Friday night.

“That’s why Trick Williams, you know, I’m a superstar and I wear that very seriously. So I don’t know about these free matches every single Friday night. When the people see Trick Williams, he’s going to be in the main event. It’s going to be a show when I defend this title.”

Williams also addressed how he’s feeling after winning his first main roster title, making it clear the moment still hasn’t fully sunk in. He spoke about being grateful for fan support and thankful for the opportunity he’s earned.

Even though he signaled that weekly open challenges may be over, Williams didn’t close the door on facing anyone who wants a shot at his championship. When asked about potential challengers, including familiar rivals, he made it clear that he’s ready for whoever steps up.

“Man, whoever wants some of Trick Williams, you better strap your boots on tight because you’re going to get the best version of Trick Williams. It doesn’t matter who signs up.”

Sami Zayn had turned weekly open challenges into a regular feature of the United States Championship after winning the title in August 2025. Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes carried on that tradition during their own reigns, but Williams appears ready to take the championship in a completely different direction.

With a new champion already setting his own rules, the United States Title scene could look very different moving forward.
