Sting called him out. Tony Khan answered. Just days after the WWE Hall of Famer singled him out during his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video, the AEW President made good on the nomination by letting a bucket of ice water come crashing down on him during Jacksonville Jaguars training camp.
Khan shared the video on July 31 while using the moment to shine a spotlight on ALS awareness and Rebel “Tanea” before passing the challenge on to three more people.
“Approximately 1 in 300 people will develop ALS in their lifetime. In support of @RebelTanea and all those affected, @TonyKhan accepts the #IceBucketChallenge & nominates Coach Coen, James Gladstone, and Tony Boselli.”
The video comes just days after Sting turned his own challenge into a full-blown wrestling promo. Instead of simply dumping the ice water over his head, Sting joked that he was trying to get a tan before dedicating the challenge to Rebel.
“Rebel Heart, this is for you. I’m ready… FOR AN ICE BATH, BROTHER!”
The first bucket barely fazed him. Sting laughed it off, shouted, “That’s all you got?”, and even celebrated after getting soaked. Moments later, someone dumped a second bucket of ice water over him before he finally got around to nominating the next group of participants. That’s when Khan’s name came up alongside Dustin Rhodes, Mick Foley, Darby Allin and Sting’s sons, Garrett and Steven.
Now Khan has officially answered the call, keeping the challenge moving while helping spread awareness for ALS and encouraging more people to get involved.
With Khan passing the challenge on to Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, general manager James Gladstone and franchise legend Tony Boselli, the wrestling world’s ALS campaign is now spilling over into the NFL as well.
