Tony Khan has a new version of AEW’s Four Pillars in mind, and one name on his list is bound to get fans talking.
While speaking with Q93, the AEW President was asked which stars he sees as the modern equivalent of the original Four Pillars. Khan admitted there is no perfect answer because every fan is going to have their own list, but he still rattled off four names he believes have become major pieces of the company. And yes, Mercedes Moné made the cut.
“Well, that’s a great question. It’s tricky because it’s somewhat in the eye of the beholder. You know, you could ask 100 fans to pick four pillars and they might have 99 different answers.”
Khan then revealed the four wrestlers he believes have become hugely important to AEW since arriving in recent years.
“If I was to pick from a young group right now that has come in in recent years, I would say, of the new arrivals, you’d have Thekla, Kevin Knight, I think Kyle Fletcher, and looking up and down the roster, I mean, Mercedes Mone.”
He also explained that AEW’s original roster has continued to grow thanks to key additions over the years.
“Really, when I look at the AEW stars, we had a great roster at the very beginning and we’ve brought in great free agents as we’ve gone on that have come in in recent years. So those would be four great people that have come into AEW in recent years that are now very important in the company.”
The list is interesting for a few reasons. Thekla currently holds the AEW Women’s World Championship, Kevin Knight is the TNT Champion, and Kyle Fletcher has already captured both the TNT and AEW World Trios Championships.
Then there is Mercedes Moné. While she remains one of AEW’s biggest stars, calling her part of a “young group” is sure to turn some heads considering her years of experience and established status before ever arriving in AEW.
Khan’s comments also come with another interesting possibility. If Thekla defeats Starlight Kid at Forbidden Door and Moné beats Maya World in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Finals, the stage would be set for a huge title clash between the two at All In 2026.
