The wrestling world continues speculating about where former The New Day members Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods could land next, and now Tony Khan has finally addressed the growing AEW rumors himself. With internal support inside AEW already said to be extremely strong for bringing the duo in, Khan was directly asked about the possibility following ROH Supercard of Honor.
During the post-show media scrum, Khan avoided directly commenting on signing Kingston and Woods, who are now expected to use the names Kofi and Austin Creed moving forward outside WWE. Khan still made it clear he thinks highly of both wrestlers.
“I cannot comment, or I don’t think I should comment on wrestlers that still have a contractual obligation. As I understand it, I believe they are still obligated, and I don’t believe I’m allowed to talk to them.”
“As such, I don’t feel it would be right to comment on them under the circumstances except to say that I think they are great wrestlers.”
The comments come after it was reported that there is heavy belief throughout wrestling that All Elite Wrestling is the most likely landing spot for the former WWE tag team stars. The report also stated that “every AEW source” they spoke with was pushing for AEW to sign the duo, including several major names within the company.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods officially confirmed their WWE departure on May 4 after news first broke on May 2. Shortly after the news surfaced, AEW names including MJF and FTR publicly referenced the duo online, fueling even more speculation about a possible move.
The former WWE stars already have convention appearances lined up, including GalaxyCon later this month, while more appearances are still expected to be announced.
For now, nothing has officially been confirmed regarding their future, but the possibility of Kofi and Austin Creed showing up in AEW continues gaining momentum across the wrestling world.
