Adam Copeland just dropped a massive retirement bombshell on AEW fans, revealing that 2027 will be his final year as a professional wrestler.

Copeland made the announcement during the October 14, 2026 episode of AEW Dynamite/Collision after defeating Josh Alexander in their WrestleDream Clockwork Carnage qualifying match.

Following the win, Copeland addressed the crowd and revealed just how badly he was hurt during his Tables, Ladders and Chairs match against Christian Cage at AEW All Out. According to Copeland, Christian broke three of his ribs and caused him to suffer a collapsed lung within the first five minutes of the match.

Despite those injuries, Copeland continued competing, but he made it clear Wednesday night that the clock is now officially ticking on his career. Copeland announced that 2027 will be his final year in professional wrestling, immediately putting a deadline on whatever championship goals he still wants to accomplish inside AEW.

That is also why the AEW World Championship has suddenly become such an important target for the Rated R Superstar. Copeland explained that with his career nearing its end, now is the time for him to make a serious run at the biggest prize in the company.

The timing makes his victory over Alexander even more significant. Copeland did not simply move forward in the Clockwork Carnage picture. He walked out of the match and essentially declared that his final chapter has begun, with the AEW World Championship sitting directly in his sights.

With 2027 now officially set as the end of Adam Copeland’s wrestling career, every major match from this point forward carries considerably more weight. The question is whether Copeland can add an AEW World Championship reign to his résumé before he finally hangs up his boots.
