WWE Crown Jewel might be in even bigger trouble than anyone expected, and this time, the decision might not even be in WWE’s hands. Saudi Arabia is considering canceling all Riyadh Season events for the rest of the year, which could put the company’s November 7 premium live event in serious jeopardy.
According to Saudi Arabian outlet Ejal, the General Entertainment Authority is considering calling off this year’s Riyadh Season events amid the ongoing security concerns in the region. Since Crown Jewel is officially part of Riyadh Season, the WWE show would also be affected if Saudi officials decide to go through with the cancellations.
“The General Entertainment Authority is considering canceling all events of Riyadh Season for this year.”
Now, before anyone starts assuming Crown Jewel is officially canceled, that’s not the case just yet. Saudi officials are only considering the move, and there’s no guarantee they’ll actually pull the plug on Riyadh Season. WWE hasn’t announced any cancellation either.
Still, this is the last thing WWE needs right now, especially with Crown Jewel just a few weeks away. The company has already been dealing with questions about whether it’s safe to bring its wrestlers and staff to Riyadh following the recent attacks in the Saudi capital.
Things got particularly concerning after multiple attacks targeted King Khalid International Airport. An October 10 missile strike killed 12 people and injured more than 300 others, while another projectile struck the airport the following day, causing another death and additional injuries.
The situation had already led to reports that WWE might have to change its plans. Reports claimed the company was preparing to relocate Crown Jewel from Riyadh, although no replacement location had been confirmed.
For now, Crown Jewel is still officially scheduled for November 7 in Riyadh, and nothing has been canceled. But with the security situation continuing to cause concern and Saudi officials weighing a much bigger decision, WWE could have some major changes to deal with before the show arrives.
